I have worked with events in a voluntary and professional capacity for close on 40 years. Whilst I don’t claim to know all the answers, I know what questions to ask, I have a wealth of experience and have learned many key lessons.
Running a successful event is not rocket science, but behind any successful event there is usually a lot of strategic thinking and attention to detail.
I created and ran one of Scotland’s most respected Folk Clubs from 1974 to the mid 80s. I led the Girvan Festival during a critical development phase and was the main organiser from around year 8 until its 21st Anniversary. The Girvan Festival was generally regarded as being among the best festivals of its type in the UK.
I created and managed a series of summer schools, taking ideas and inspiration for events in the USA and modifying them for local conditions.
