Joe Stead – The Ramblings of an Old Codger. Joe Stead wrote his life story. I collaborated with him to turn it into a book that will be part of his legacy for his family and friends.
The McCalmans – A short History of a Long Career. John Slavin and I put this small book together to mark the retirement and final tours of The McCalmans.
40 Years of Warwick Folk Festival. An illustrated booklet marking the 40th anniversary of one of England’s leading folk festivals.
Crosshouse Village War Memorial. An illustrated booklet telling the story of the impact of WW1 on the Crosshouse.
50 Years of Marymass Folk Festival – ‘An Incomplete History’ This is still currently a work in progress. An extensive book telling the outline history of Irvine Marymass Folk Festival.
EXHIBITIONS
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall – 40 Years of Girvan Folk Festival. A major exhibition which was in place for several months. Presented jointly by Pete Heywood and John Slavin. 40 A1 sized panels each with audio links via an associated website.
The McKechnie Institute, Girvan – 40 Years of Girvan Folk Festival. A localised version of the main Glasgow Royal Concert Hall exhibition with live music and links to the Festival.
The Town House, Irvine – Marymass Folk Festival 50th Anniversary A multimedia exhibition with audio, video and touch screen panels together with artifacts and memorabilia and a display of full size papier mache figures of important characters from Scotland’s folk revival.
William Kennedy Piping Festival, Armagh. I put forward the initial concept for the exhibition which ran alongside a major festival. The exhibition was a joint one with a small group of photographers and painters.
THEMED SHOWS
Far, Far from Ypres – Various venues including the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Usher Hall – Edinburgh, Queens Hall – Edinburgh, Perth Theatre, Eden Court – Inverness, and venues in Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Greenock, Oban, Portree, Ullapool, Dumfries, Irvine. This was WW1 related show with over 25 singers and musicians live on stage with a back projection of moving still images. The show was directed by Ian McCalman. I was responsible for the back projection. The final performance was at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on November 11th, 2018, marking the 100-year anniversary of the Armistice, in front of a capacity audience. The projection screen on that occasion was 40 feet wide. One of the concerts was recorded and published on Video by Greentrax Recordings. The final series of concerts was adopted by Poppy Scotland with support from the Scottish Government.
The Kings Shilling – Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Fourteen musicians and singers, narration and projected images performed to a capacity audience as part of Celtic Connections.
Ceolry – The Glasgow Police Pipe Band – Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Former multiple times World Champions pipe band took the annual Piping Concert to a new level with back projection of graphics, which included a WW1 related tribute. The concert was recorded and published on CD.
The Jean Redpath Story – The National Folk Festival, Australia. A joint project with Fiona Ross, a Scottish singer now resident in Australia. Live performance with projected graphics and some historic audio and video.
The Johnny Silvo Story – Irvine Town House Heritage Centre. Written and produced by Pete Heywood. Live performance and narration with projected graphics and some historic audio and video.
Silent Movies on the Radio – Adelaides, Glasgow, Various shows with live performance and interviews against a backdrop of projected images. Themes included Irish Music in Glasgow, Tommy Sands – The Songman, Songs from the Warhorse Songman, The Clutha, Billy Jackson’s Wellpark Suite and Scots Women.
Jimmy Lee, The Runaway – various venues. Songs, narrative and projected images telling the incredible story of Jimmy Lee, his life in the Royal Navy and his subsequent exploits.
Warwick Folk Festival Histories – Warwick. Eighteen themed presentations over three years including Humour in Folk Music, Folk Music of the North East, Songs from the Warhorse Songman, Songs of the Travellers, Roots & Branches – the story of folk music in the Midlands.
Only Remembered – Crosshouse Village Hall. Inspired by Far, Far from Ypres, this was a local performance exploring the impact of WW1 on a small Scottish mining community.
